To give students a fun overview of the Bible
To give students a quick survey and sense of security in the structure of the Bible through a fun drill.
OVERVIEW
As you proceed, give answers and affirmation in a humorous way.
EXAMPLE
| Leader | "66. How many books in the Protestant Bible?" |
| Students | "66." |
| Leader | "Good!" |
| Leader | "39. How many books in the Old Testament?" |
| Students | "39." |
| Leader | "Very Good!" |
| Leader | "How much is 3 x 9, the number of books in the New Testament?" |
| Students | "27." |
| Leader | "Excellent!" |
| Leader | "Now, many books in the Bible? OT? NT?" |
| Leader | "Now, say after me: '5-12-5-5-12!' " |
| Leader | "Good, that's the outline of the Old Testament." |
| Leader | "Now let's say, '4-1-21-1!' " |
| Leader | "Now you know the outline of New Testament!" |
At this point, proceed to drill on sections of the Bible and, then, on the books within particular sections.
NOTE
This should be done for only five to ten minutes a session. The rest of the session can be spent on a particular Bible study. After a few weeks of drill, most of the class will know the outline of the Bible and many of its books in order. Question the class or group on where the major characters of the Bible are found. Give plenty of affirmation for all they have learned as you continue.
OUTLINE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT
Before beginning a deeper study of each book in the outline, explain the term(s) in each title. Next, the major characters in the Biblical books are listed. The list is not exhaustive; it may be used as suggestions for study.
