Food

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right (the whole blog process) but here it goes :)

Food.

Food is necessary for life, apparently, and it also can be quite enjoyable, can I get an amen? I think the meals I enjoy most are shared. When there is a group of friends or family or both that are working hard or having alot of fun together, and then dinner is served, I could stay at the table for hours. The shared table gives space for us to talk, laugh, enjoy, even sing. And we get a small taste of communion, being one with each other, the mystery for which we were made to enjoy with God. Walls between us are exposed when two friends won't talk to each other over a meal, or when she cuts into her chicken with a very hard stroke of the knife and he burns inside while using his napkin to wipe the freshly spilled milk off the table that shows how human he is in the precise moment he doesn't want to be. And they need the space to talk it out, yell it out if they have to, or sit quietly at the table and think or feel for a while.

I've said all this about food because my blog entry is an assignment given to me by my wonderful supervisors at TechMission, and they asked me to write about the sort of food I would like to have at our monthly meetings (they cover the bill for us when we meet). My reply, in short, is that as long as it's in the company of brothers and sisters, I'm not picky. I do enjoy a healthy meal, and I believe enough in the love of God to think that we should be feeding ourselves well and taking care of the bodies we are blessed to have. That said, what matters to me most is the company. I hope this isn't too sappy or evasive of an answer. I am a horrible American when it comes to making a choice between many options. This reality of our culture, and the need to check email daily, are two reasons why I have the suspicion that I should have been born in Romania. Just kidding, Mom and Dad :)
