Volunteer for the Holidays

The holidays are the top season for volunteering. Don't forget to search ChristianVolunteering.org to find holiday volunteer opportunities in your area. We've redesigned our homepage at ChristianVolunteering.org, so check out the new site. ChristianVolunteering.org works closely with UrbanMinistry.org to help recruit and train volunteers.

  1. Bay Area Rescue Mission (Richmond, CA): “Join a team of 42 volunteers and the Bay Area Rescue Mission staff on 11-19-07 to serve one of our Thanksgiving Week Dinners restaurant style to the homeless.” (http://www.christianvolunteering.org/org/opp8309.jsp)

Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly (Jamaica Plain, MA): “Spend Thanksgiving or Christmas with elders who are over 70, very low-income, and are without friends or families to celebrate the holidays with.   5. Little Lights Urban Ministries (Washington, D.C.): “We have a choir for boys and girls ages 8+ that meets on Fridays. During this time they practice skits, songs and dance. We need more you to help our choir with choreography and dance.” (http://www.christianvolunteering.org/org/opp2439.jsp)
  6. Bay Area Rescue Mission (Richmond, CA): Volunteer at annual Children’s Christmas Gospel Party as the organization provides 2,000-3,000 gifts to homeless and at-risk inner city youth.

Post Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

The holidays are the best time of the year to recruit volunteers. Don't forget to post your holiday volunteer opportunities on ChristianVolunteering.org. We have placed over 1,500 volunteers in the past year, and expect to place more than 2,500 in the coming year. Post a Volunteer or Short Term Missions Opportunity for free.


Give Donations While You Shop Online

This holiday season, while you shop online, you can have a percentage (1-5%) of each purchase go to support TechMission and its ministries. There are two ways to do this.

  1. Visit http://www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx, type TechMission at the top and select a store.
  2. Visit http://www.giveness.org/techmission, and select a store.

If you have a ministry you want to register with these sites you can add them at: http://www.goodsearch.com/AddCharity.aspx and http://www.giveness.com/sp/nonprofit.aspx.


Tutorial: How to Edit the UrbanMinistry.org Encylopedia

Wiki Encyclopedia articles are documents that any user of UrbanMinistry.org can edit (like Wikipedia). All ChristianVolunteering.org users also have accounts on UrbanMinistry.org. We do review articles to make sure people are not posting inappropriate information. Anyone can post on any topic that might be of interest to others passionate about social justice.

  1. Take the Wiki Tutorial Tour.
  2. Login, and find a page you want to edit.
  3. Click the "Edit Button" at the top of any page or Add Wiki Page link under the Wiki menu.
  4. After your changes are reviewed, they will be added to the wiki.

TechMission/UrbanMinistry.org Membership
